What is Alpha?
Alpha is an 11 week course which explores the Christian faith deeper, shares your point of view and ask questions. It happens in churches up and down the country.
Each Alpha session looks different and is done differently in each church. The prompted sessions look at different questions each week that are designed to create a conversation and make us think about different things.
Even-though each Alpha may look different they do all have three things in common; hospitality, a talk and good conversation.
The Alpha film series and Alpha youth Series were designed to take guests on a journey of faith over multiple weeks. Each session covers a key element of the gospel in a way that is easy to follow and leaves space for people to explore their questions about life, faith and God.
How much is Alpha?
Nothing. It's absolutely free. Alpha began in 1977 at a church called Holy Trinity Brompton. The amount of people attending alpha at HTB grew rapidly and it attracted a lot of attention from other churches across all denominations trying to find an effective way to evangelise to those around and within our churches. Since then, alpha has continued to grow. They believe that everyone should have the opportunity to explore a relationship with Jesus, wherever they are in the world, for free. Alpha has been 100% funded by various donors to allow people to widen their faith and relationship with Christ free of charge.
What typically happens at Alpha?
Connect, watch and discuss... A typical alpha session begins with connecting with one another. Usually there is a meal and food prepared and all the people who attend alpha get to connect with each other, form new friendships and get to know each other better. This is a great way to learn more about everyone and a great way to begin the alpha course. After refreshments and food there is a time to watch a video. The video varies each week on different topics and helps us to think about the issues raised in the video, which will then lead to discussions. It is a great way of initiating discussions among the group and deepening people's faith my thinking deeper about the questions asked and what they think about the video.
